Canada. Mexico. Turkey. Saudi Arabia. Anywhere but here!

Fucking fuck fuck fuck.
H. Res. 847
In the House of Representatives, U. S.,
December 11, 2007.
Whereas Christmas, a holiday of great significance to Americans and many other cultures and nationalities, is celebrated annually by Christians throughout the United States and the world;
Whereas there are approximately 225,000,000 Christians in the United States, making Christianity the religion of over three-fourths of the American population;
Whereas there are approximately 2,000,000,000 Christians throughout the world, making Christianity the largest religion in the world and the religion of about one-third of the world population;
Whereas Christians and Christianity have contributed greatly to the development of western civilization;
Whereas the United States, being founded as a constitutional republic in the traditions of western civilization, finds much in its history that points observers back to its Judeo-Christian roots;
Whereas on December 25 of each calendar year, American Christians observe Christmas, the holiday celebrating the birth of their savior, Jesus Christ;
Whereas for Christians, Christmas is celebrated as a recognition of God's redemption, mercy, and Grace; and
Whereas many Christians and non-Christians throughout the United States and the rest of the world, celebrate Christmas as a time to serve others: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) recognizes the Christian faith as one of the great religions of the world;
(2) expresses continued support for Christians in the United States and worldwide;
(3) acknowledges the international religious and historical importance of Christmas and the Christian faith;
(4) acknowledges and supports the role played by Christians and Christianity in the founding of the United States and in the formation of the western civilization;
(5) rejects bigotry and persecution directed against Christians, both in the United States and worldwide; and
(6) expresses its deepest respect to American Christians and Christians throughout the world
Striving for theocracy AND playing the victim at the same time, as per usual. And, of course, supported predominantly by Republicans. This ridiculous measure is only being put forward in bald-faced attempt to try to get their ridiculous feelings of entitlement for complete and utter control of this country justified by a seemingly innocuous ruling by an unsuspecting and sympathetic Congress. I hate these people so much...

Edit: My hatred remains, but I may not need to expatriate myself yet. Apparently, this was put before the House last year. Part of my rage was from remembering them trying to pull off a similar bill around Spring of this year. As such, I am slightly placated by knowing that this was probably the same one, and thus they aren't trying to make this annual tradition, like the frickin' flag burning amendment. Oh, but I guess my anger may be important anyway, because it has already passed in the House of Representatives. I would continue to rant, but I am too busy laughing at similar legislation.

Thanks for making my head explode.

BTW - as penance for my failures in the poem I have added this last section:
"But before I can go in peace after trying to make my prose sleeker, I must amend my words in light of the advise of our friend Seeker. As he rightly chastised me for missing the Soltice and Eid al-Adha, to my litany of well wishes I am really quite glad to add ya..."

Bill number 666666
Where as the US House of Representatives is a body composed of idiots.
Where as these idiots have been duly elected on the basis of securing more campaign financing than their opponent.
Where as intelligence and an understanding of the basic Constitution is not a requirement of the elected.
Where as being seen as a friend of the religious right is a way to secure financing.
Where as it is far easier to vote on trite BS than to construct meaningful law.
It is submitted to the House of Representatives that --
1) we support the the religious right's efforts to create a sense of victimization.
2) we avoid inconvenient separations wherever possible
3) We actually do not qualify to be part of the phylum Cordata...

Pliny: you are a rhyming machine! You do a gansta' rap remix (assuming, of course, that rap music still contains rhymes. I really should pay attention to these things).

3) We actually do not qualify to be part of the phylum Cordata..."

I actually think that we should try to petition to get statement number 3 acknowledged by the government. We can try to get an acknowledgment in which they are classified in kingdom fungi beforehand, just so that your measure will go over more easily (lol).

Pboy: They have never said anything like that. Those were liberal Christians, who act as the fluffy public face of Christianity and who can later serve as meat shields when they are under fire for pulling crap like this.

Maze Monster: "Nobody plays the victim better. For 2000 years!"
The Jews are trying so very hard to compete though. It is just really hard to effectively play the victim when, ya know, you have actually been periodically/systematically (depending on region) victimized during that allotted time frame. You can't really play victim well enough unless you have numbers, military strength, stores of wealth, and undue amounts of legislative authority on your side.

Jesus Christ, thats right, I said it... This is just ridiculous.

"Whereas Christians and Christianity have contributed greatly to the development of western civilization" They did an awesome job at that when they took over Rome and rejected technology, started plagues and put us in the dark ages... Had it not been for them, can you imagine how the world would be today?

Probably more or less the same way it is today (assuming that Rome was going to fall anyway and that humans aren't naturally predisposed towards funding scientific research in the absence of religious interference). But, I think that my answer is deeply rooted in being too lazy to try to comprehend the massive butterfly effect that would result from removing something as large as Christianity's influence from a 2000 year stretch of history. It is too mind boggling to even fathom (and it is why it entertains me when Christians try to claim that the world would have been WORSE off without them...because there is an insane amount of calculation that should be involved in leaping to that conclusion!)

They have made a lot of contributions to our society.

Great ?
Not most !
A few that pop into my head:
I am quite fond of Europes Gothic Cathedrals.
I used to screw a christian woman almost every night( wife)...almost Monday, almost Tuesday, almost Wednesday, almost Thursday...etc, etc.
They got rid of those pesky Native Americans for us.
They kept those upity Blacks in their place for as long as they could.
They confuse many children, due to their( children's) lack of belief.
They have given me my great orgasmic cry..."JEEZUS CHRIST WOMAN !!!"

Maybe my favorites aren't so great ?

It took 'til 2007 for the Christians to realize that they might need to have a 'note' from the government?

I think that this is a sign of fear. A sign that they are realizing that if enough skeptics/atheists/secularists got together and compared worldviews and compare THAT to how the country is being run and who is running it, that they might be in for what they'd percieve as persecution.

Harsh words on the internet for example!

I think that they foresee a time when they will need to rig elections, propagandize the public, rig polls etc. to convince people that they ARE religious!

Their 'revealed' mandate is that they need to convince people that they need to be religious anyways.

Why not assume 'job-well-done', just a few gripers, WE have the money and the power and NO-ONE is taking it back!

What of the 'net? Well, already it is being censored. I can't look at TV shows narrowcast by the brits, for example. WHY?

mac, you completely forgot about gospel music, random scientists who happened to be Catholic, and socialism (sort of).

"I think that this is a sign of fear."

Everything they do is essentially motivated by fear. I mean, hell, that's the very basis of their religion!

"I think that they foresee a time when they will need to rig elections, propagandize the public, rig polls etc. to convince people that they ARE religious!"

Well...if you're going to be rigging elections, propagandize the public, and rig polls anyway...

"I can't look at TV shows narrowcast by the brits, for example. WHY?"

I think that it just has something to do with copyright law, but I am quite sure honestly.

What's narrowcast?

I do not know for sure.
Looking up:
"Transmission of information to a specific list of recipients."
Yeah, so it's what I suspected: a broadcast with a narrowed down audience.
